I had this published in the Daily Mail on Thursday.
As a regular traveller with, and supporter of Ryanair, I now find I am becoming
increasingly frustrated with their policy reagarding hand luggage, your article
regarding the Belgian students highlighting this issue. The hand luggage I have
used for years is now subject to being put into their baggage size guagers,
three different times at Stansted on one flight. Ryanair staff are now going
from assertive to intimidating, I have seen people, usually elderly or female
near to tears.
This luggage fits easily in the overhead lockers, so why these difficulties. It
is purey a money raising policy–don’t pay don’t fly, so at the end we have to
pay. However, payback time, don’t buy anything on the plane. Ryanair’s last
results showed in flight purchases up 20%—they will soon get the message if
passengers buy nothing and tell them why.
